A few months ago, a crown on a back molar came off. π¦· I’ve never had that happen before. I went to the dentist and found out the tooth was decaying underneath the crown and I didn’t even know it because it wasn’t bothering me. π€·ββοΈ I’m not sure how long that was going on or if it was missed on x-rays or what. They wanted to refer me to someone else because they thought I may need a root canal. The dentist I was referred to doesn’t think I need one but I definitely need a new crown. Insurance denied to crown saying not enough of the tooth is damaged to need a crown. It definitely is. π I appealed their decision and sent them a picture clearly showing that a lot of the tooth was missing because it was previously ground down for the crown that was on it before. I also had to explain that to them and wait for them to make a decision. There is a lot of decay that also has to be removed. I finally heard back a couple weeks later and they approved it. It really shouldn’t have been denied in the first place. This has wasted a lot of time and I’m worried it’s going to get worse. π After dealing with the insurance BS, the dentist is now booked up and I won’t be able to have work done for the crown for a couple months. They told me they could probably get me in sooner if there’s a cancellation which they will call me about.
I hate how dental and vision are separate and aren’t covered under medical insurance. I also hate how they like to deny things that are necessary just because they’re expensive. I’ve had to fight insurance companies to cover things before and it’s a pain. π€
