I had a Cockatiel named Sammy for 6 years. A few years ago, I had to give him up for adoption because I was busy with college and was dealing with illnesses. I couldn’t properly care for him and give him the attention he needed. I think about him daily and miss him. I often wonder if I did the right thing. I’ve felt guilty for years.

  1. That would be very hard. I think it is a huge thing, not only to part with an animal but try and decide if you can care for them properly. You obviously wanted to put Sammy’s own saftey above everything and that is a good thing. I can imagine it would feel much worse if you kept him and something much worse happened. I hope you can see that you did the best thing that you could at the time.

Is there anyway that you can contact the people he was given too?

  2. I’m sure it was a hard thing to do and even though right now you may be feeling guilty but you did the right thing. If you knew it just wasn’t a time where you could give him the attention he needed then you did the right thing for him. It was a selfless act you did and that is something many people have a hard time realizing. Just know it was the right thing to do..
